The Arts Council is riding the wave of excitement building for the Beach Boys tribute band Still Surfin' which will be performing at the Boykin Center on Friday October 22nd! This talented group of musicians will cover the timeless classics of the Beach Boys, which are often referred to as America's Band. The original group, formed in 1961, had thirty-six Top 40 hits and fifty-six Hot 100 hits, including four number one singles. This success earned them the #12 slot in Rolling Stones' 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Matthew Groce, founder of Still Surfin', and his fellow band members consider it an honor to be able to perform as a Beach Boys tribute band as they've done since 2000. The complex five part harmonies that were the hallmark of Brian Wilson and company songs are recreated each time Still Surfin' takes the stage. Since most fans don't really know or remember what the original Beach Boys looked like, the cover band can't rely on costumes to recreate the Beach Boys effect. Therefore, pitch perfect harmony becomes the most important factor in their performance. Classics such as "Don't Worry Baby," "Good Vibrations," "Help Me Rhonda," and "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" are fan favorites that wonderfully showcase their vocal talents. Another fan favorite, the ever popular "Kokomo" continues to thrill audiences of all ages. When this recording rocketed to the top of the charts in 1988, it marked the first number one hit for the Beach Boys in twenty-two years and eventually became their biggest selling hit ever.

A youthful Wilson, NC twist will be added to the California feel of the evening when the Beddingfield High School chorus, under the direction of Amy Parker, will perform on stage with Still Surfin'. According to Ms. Parker, when she approached her students with this idea, "the kids were really excited about the opportunity to perform with the group."

To experience "Fun, Fun, Fun" and celebrate a simpler time when summer, hot rod cars, surfboards and California girls reigned supreme be sure not to miss Still Surfin'! Tickets for the 7:30pm performance are available by contacting the Arts Council box office at (252) 291-4329 and are priced at $20 and $18 for students and seniors. The Arts Partner for this performance is Bridgestone Corporation.
