Join the Arts Council of Wilson Halloween weekend as we present the second film festival devoted to the horror movie genre on Saturday, October 30th. A variety of creepy movie classics will be shown at the Boykin Center featuring well known masters of terror.
Mr. Sardonicus, released in 1961,stars Guy Rolfe as a merciless baron whose face is permanently frozen into a hideous grin following a search of his dead father's grave for a winning lottery ticket. He forces a physician to correct the deformity with even more chilling results. How should he pay for his horrible deeds? Audience members will decide his fate by way of "The Punishment Poll" vote!
The Last Man on Earth is based on the classic Richard Matheson novel I am Legend. It stars horror movie legend Vincent Price as the last living man on Earth that he learns has been seized by vampires and zombies. This forerunner to "Night of the Living Dead" shows Price's reluctant existence as he hunts the vampires by day and is creepily terrorized by them at night.
Plan 9 from Outer Space has been dubbed the "Worst Movie Ever Made." It briefly stars famed actor Bela Lugosi who died shortly after filming began. Lugosi was replaced by an actor who repeatedly masked his face with a cape to avoid being detected as a replacement actor. Wilson's own Gregory Walcott was also a part of this cast. Pure camp more than horror and something that needs to be seen to be believed.
Count Dracula and his Vampire Brides, released in 1978 is set in London, England as Scotland Yard police detectives request that expert vampire hunter, Professor Van Helsing (Peter Cushing), help them solve the hideous crimes they believe involve vampirism. Christopher Lee portrays Count Dracula. Britain's Hammer Studios was known for pushing the envelope with action packed and racy takes on the classic horror movie. PG-17 rating.
